A/R:Traders in Kumasi protest over dustbin installation at CBD

A group of traders in the Central Business Districts (CBDs) of Kumasi have staged a protest against the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's (KMA) installation of dustbins, arguing that the initiative is having a detrimental impact on their businesses.

A viral video obtained by ClassFmonline shows a group of visibly frustrated traders confronting officials and expressing their discontent over the placement of the waste bins directly in front of their shops.

The traders claim that the positioning of the dustbins obstructs access to their stalls and reduces visibility for customers, ultimately affecting sales.

Some traders also raised concerns about potential hygiene issues, stating that the bins could attract unpleasant odours and pests if not properly managed. We are not opposed to maintaining a clean city, but the manner in which these bins are being placed is a problem for us,” one trader was heard saying in the video.

The KMA has intensified efforts to improve sanitation in Kumasi in recent months, including the strategic placement of waste bins across busy commercial areas to encourage proper waste disposal and reduce littering.
