BoG denies reports of plans to sell new $260 million headquarters

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has repudiated reports indicating that it is considering the sale of its newly constructed headquarters, describing the claims as "false and misleading."

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the central bank contradicted a publication by MyJoyOnline on June 1, 2026, titled "Bank of Ghana considering sale of new $260m headquarters – sources."

"The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading," the statement said.

According to the bank, there are no discussions or plans underway to dispose of the facility, which has been at the centre of public debate since its construction.

“The Bank is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of its new headquarters,” it stressed.

BoG explained that the building remains an important asset that supports its mandate and day-to-day operations.

“The facility, which was commissioned to support the Bank’s operations and enhance efficiency in the discharge of its statutory mandate, remains a critical asset of the Bank,” the statement added.

The central bank also urged the public and the media to disregard the report, warning that inaccurate publications on matters concerning the country’s financial system could have broader implications.

“Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty,” it noted.

The Bank reiterated its commitment to transparency and said official information regarding its activities would continue to be communicated through its recognised channels.

It listed its website, verified social media platforms, statements from its Communications Department, and signed statements from the Secretary of the Bank as its official communication channels.

BoG further encouraged media organisations to seek clarification before publishing reports related to its operations.

“The media is encouraged to seek clarification from the Bank before publishing information relating to its operations,” the statement said.
