“Disinfect the microphones before you perform” – Sista Afia advises fellow artistes

Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has called on her fellow artistes to take greater precautions by disinfecting microphones before using them during performances.

In a post shared on social media, the singer raised concerns about the frequent sharing of microphones at concerts and other events, noting that several artistes use the same equipment without necessarily knowing how many people have used it before them.

According to Sista Afia, microphones are regularly exposed to singing, talking and breathing, with some performers also placing their mouths directly on them.

She therefore encouraged artistes to carry microphone-safe disinfectant sprays or wipes and clean microphones before performing.

The musician further suggested that artistes who can afford it should consider bringing their own microphones to shows as an additional precaution.

Sista Afia, however, clarified that she was not claiming that every illness experienced after a performance is caused by using shared microphones.

She stressed that taking simple preventive measures could help reduce potential health risks, urging her colleagues to make their health a priority.

“Your health first,” she emphasized, encouraging artistes to disinfect their microphones before performing.
