Tiwa Savage Foundation and Berklee award $2.1m Scholarships to 18 rising Nigerian stars

The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, partnering with Berklee College of Music, wrapped up its groundbreaking inaugural Berklee in Nigeria, Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Program, Berklee’s debut in the country.

Held over five days from April 22–26, 2026, the event gathered 120 of Nigeria’s top emerging artists, songwriters, producers, and music pros for immersive, world-class training right at home.

Aiming to connect Africa’s booming music scene with global standards, the program offered hands-on workshops in live performance, songwriting, production, and music business. Participants worked closely with Berklee’s elite faculty through sessions, collaborations, and mentorship, building skills and industry know-how.

It all peaked at a stunning Grand Finale Concert & Award Ceremony at the National Theatre, emceed by Darey Art Alade and Kie Kie. Talents showcased original tracks from the intensive, backed by bands spanning Afrobeats, R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel, Jazz, and fusion. Berklee-led ensembles covered classics from Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis, plus modern hits by Masego, Ayra Starr, and Ne-Yo, mixed with fresh compositions. Guest stars Loud Choir and Teni the Entertainer lit up the stage, showcasing Nigeria’s diverse, world-ready talent.

“Seeing these young musicians shine at the National Theatre was emotional and inspiring,” Tiwa Savage shared. “Our foundation’s mission was to bring top-tier music education to Nigeria and awarding 18 scholarships to Berklee in Boston proves our talent is world-class. This is just the start for empowering African creatives to dominate globally.”

Leading faculty included Dennis Montgomery (Academic Director, Professor of Ensembles), Yoron Israel (Chair of Percussion), Tyrone Chase (Assistant Chair of Ensembles), Nichelle Mungo (Associate Professor of Voice), Anthony Nembhard (Assistant Professor of Ensembles), and Jason Camelio (Program Director and Assistant Vice President of Global Programs and Partnerships).
