Wizkid, Wande Coal advised me on how to leave school for music – Davido

Davido has revealed how he sought advice from Wizkid and Wande Coal while trying to combine his education with music.

The Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star spoke about his early struggles with balancing education and music in the Afrobeats Documentary.

Davido said he asked the two artistes how they managed to leave school and focus on music.

“I asked Wizkid and Wande Coal how they left school to do music,” he said.

“They told me the only way was to blow up. I knew my dad wouldn’t allow me, but when ‘Dami Duro’ blew up, I couldn’t continue.”

He later returned to complete his education, graduating from Babcock University in 2015 with a degree in music.

In August, Davido and Wande Coal engaged in a heated exchange on social media over an unreleased version of a song.

The feud began after a viral interview in which Davido explained why a version of Wande Coal’s 2021 song ‘Come My Way,’ featuring him was never released.

Davido said Wande had brought the song to him to record a verse before the original was released.

He claimed the collaboration was shelved because Wande wanted to release the original first and later put out his contribution as a remix — an arrangement he rejected because “I didn’t record it as a remix”.

Reacting, Wande Coal questioned Davido’s claim that he had brought the song to him, explaining that the original single already had a scheduled release date.

He also accused Davido of trying to dictate the release of a song that belonged to him, boasting that it performed well without Davido’s contribution.

Davido responded with a taunt, using an insulting remark directed at Wande’s manhood: “No vex Mr little penis”.

Wande fired back with a jibe of his own, replying, “No vex too Mr. toto beggar.” He appeared to reference a viral video of Davido on his knees, allegedly persuading a woman to have sex with him.
