15 killed, 25 injured in Peki-Tsame road crash

A fatal head-on collision between a passenger bus and a container truck at Peki Tsame in the Volta Region has resulted in 15 fatalities and 25 injuries.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2, near Peki Senior High School. The Ghana National Fire Service reported that firefighters from the Peki Fire Station responded to the scene, conducting rescue operations to assist victims trapped in the wreckage.

The accident involved a Mercedes Benz container truck traveling from Nkwanta to Accra and a Mercedes Benz passenger bus traveling from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region.

A total of 40 people were involved, including 21 men, 15 women, and four children. Firefighters rescued 25 injured victims, consisting of 23 adults and two children, and transported them to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.

The Ghana National Fire Service reported that 15 people died in the collision, comprising nine men and six women. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police and transported to the hospital mortuary pending identification and further investigations.

The cause of the accident has not been determined, and investigations are ongoing.

The Ghana National Fire Service expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to comply with road traffic regulations, avoid dangerous driving, and exercise caution to reduce road crashes.
