5-month-old baby stolen at Asafo Market, police launch manhunt for female suspect

The incident happened around 5 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Cape Coast Bus Terminal, where the woman was preparing food.

According to Kuffour, the baby was asleep when his mother placed him in front of the store and briefly turned away to pick up something.

“The suspect is a woman we don’t know in the area, she was sitting close to the store. The mother had turned from the store to get something but returned to see both the baby and the woman gone,” he told OTEC News.

The woman, believed to be between 37 and 40 years old, remains unidentified and had not been arrested at the time of publication.

The family has reported the incident to the police and is appealing to the public for information to help locate the baby, identified as Akwasi Banahene.
