Ablakwa commends progress on Eastern Corridor Road projects

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the Dorfor Adidome–Asikuma and Juapong–Asikuma sections of the Eastern Corridor Road.

The road is expected to boost economic activities in the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra Regions upon completion, due to its interconnected nature across these regions.

About 70% of the stretch passes through the North Tongu constituency, which the MP noted gives him the excitement to supervise the progress of work.

The roads are set to serve as the approach routes for the construction of the Volivo Bridge across the Volta Lake.

The project's timely completion will pave the way for contractors to begin work, unlocking the area's potential for agriculture, tourism, and other economic activities.

With an estimated cost of $90 million, the project has undergone variations to elevate the road and prevent submersion during heavy rainfall.

The African Development Bank is providing financial support through a loan facility, while a Chinese contractor is handling the project's execution.
