Asante Akyem North MP’s Two Bail Attempts Rejected in Netherlands

The Asante Akyem North MP, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, remains in custody in Amsterdam after two attempts to secure his release on bail were rejected by Dutch authorities.

Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says both the initial bail application and an appeal were unsuccessful.

The MP’s extradition hearing has been scheduled for November 18, 2026.

Frimpong was arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in May 2026 after travelling from Ghana over alleged links to romance scams and money laundering.

Dafeamekpor says Parliament is preparing for the substantive extradition hearing and will also issue a statement on the MP’s current status.

He has meanwhile urged the media to rely on official information and avoid publishing unconfirmed reports about the case.
