Dr Albertina Oheneba Williams Raises Awareness on Breast Cancer

Consultant Radiologist, Medical practitioner at Greater Accra Regional Hospital , Dr Albertina Oheneba Williams has educated the public on breast cancer, explaining its causes, symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of early detection and emotional support.

Dr Albertina Oheneba Williams described breast cancer as a disease that develops when cells in the breast grow abnormally and form a lump or tumour.

She explained that if not detected early, the disease can spread to other parts of the body.

She outlined some common signs and symptoms, including a lump in the breast, changes in breast size or shape, pain, skin changes, and unusual nipple discharge. She urged the public to seek medical attention immediately if any of these signs were noticed.

Dr Williams noted that although women are at higher risk, men can also develop breast cancer, though it is less common. She added that risk factors include family history, increasing age, unhealthy lifestyle, and hormonal influences.

she advised Ghanaians to adopt healthy lifestyles such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, reducing alcohol intake, and going for regular medical check-ups and screenings.

She stressed that early detection through self-examination and hospital screening can save lives.
