Former NSA boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah defers appearance before Parliament over ongoing CID investigation

Suspended Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has decided to defer his appearance before Parliament while a CID investigation continues.
Mr Ampofo Ankrah was suspended from his position as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) following controversy over an alleged visa facilitation arrangement linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His lawyers, Brookman-Amissah & Associates, said appearing before Parliament at this stage could prejudice the investigation and affect the process of establishing the facts.
In a statement, the lawyers said Mr. Ampofo Ankrah is cooperating fully with the police and will continue to assist the investigators.
They urged the public and the media to avoid presenting allegations, speculation or unverified information as established facts.
The lawyers stressed that the fact that an investigation is ongoing does not amount to a finding of wrongdoing against Mr. Ampofo Ankrah or any other person.
They explained that the decision to defer his appearance before Parliament should not be interpreted as a refusal to submit to lawful processes.
According to the lawyers, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah is currently under suspension, and he will respond to any lawful request to appear before Parliament or another competent institution if his suspension is lifted and he is restored to his position.
The legal team said their client would refrain from making detailed public comments on the issues under investigation until the relevant authorities complete their work.
They added that Mr. Ampofo Ankrah or his lawyers would respond to the findings and address any issues requiring clarification after the investigation is concluded.
