High Court orders AG to take over OSP prosecutions

The High Court in Accra has issued a directive to the Attorney-General's Department, requiring it to immediately assume control over all ongoing criminal prosecutions currently being handled by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, pending formal authorisation from the Attorney-General's office.

This ruling, delivered on Wednesday, April 15, marks a significant development in Ghana's legal and anti-corruption landscape, effectively transferring prosecutorial authority from the OSP to the Attorney-General on an interim basis.

Moreover, the Court has declared that all ongoing prosecutions initiated by the OSP are null and void, thereby immediately halting multiple high-profile cases currently being tried in various courts across the country.

The presiding judge, Justice John Nyante Nyadu, has also awarded costs of GH₵15,000 against the OSP, underscoring the Court's stance on the matter and the procedural concerns raised in the case.
