Kumasi Mayor has reinstated sanitation guards to address the issue of litter

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has announced plans to deploy sanitation guards, commonly known as "Nsamansaman," throughout the metropolis, commencing in July, as part of an enhanced initiative to improve sanitation.

The Mayor expressed concerns regarding the ongoing indiscriminate disposal of waste into drainage systems by certain residents, despite current arrests and legal actions taken against sanitation violators.

In an interview with the media on Monday, June 8, Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi stated that he would personally lead the sanitation guards into the communities as part of strict measures to ensure that residents adhere to sanitation laws.

He emphasized that the introduction of the sanitation guards is part of a larger strategy to tackle inadequate sanitation practices and safeguard the city from environmental and public health hazards.

"To date, we have prosecuted approximately 26 individuals in court, yet there are still defiant offenders.

We will not relent. Our efforts will continue until we establish discipline. Beginning on July 1, we will reintroduce the Nsamansaman that Kumasi once knew."
