Lady arrested for allegedly hiding drugs in pie for detatained suspect

The Ashaiman District Command in the Greater Accra Region has foiled an attempt to smuggle suspected narcotics into police cells. The narcotics were concealed in food meant for a detainee.

On Sunday, May 11, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a 21-year-old unemployed woman, Anita Amoah, visited the Ashaiman Police Station with a pie and yogurt intended for a suspect, Richard Acquah, who was in custody.

Officers at the station's counter discovered four tablets of a substance identified as Timaking drugs, popularly known as “Red,” hidden inside the pie during routine inspection. Anita Amoah reportedly admitted that Richard Acquah had requested the items while in detention.

Further investigations revealed that Richard Acquah had allegedly smuggled a Samsung keypad mobile phone and SIM card into the cells by concealing them in a bandana. He allegedly used the phone to contact Anita Amoah and instruct her to hide the drugs in the pie.

The yogurt and pie had been packaged in a polythene bag and presented at the charge office for onward delivery to the suspect. Anita Amoah has been detained to assist with investigations, and the pie containing the suspected drugs has been retained as evidence.

Caution statements have been obtained from both suspects, and they are expected to be formally charged and arraigned before court.
