Mahama took the right steps to turn Ghana’s economy around – Dangote

Nigerian industrialist and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as a significant turnaround in Ghana’s economy within a short period.
Speaking at the “Accra Reset: Full Circle – Making Global Development Work Again” event in New York, Mr. Dangote said Ghana’s recent economic developments demonstrate the importance of trust and confidence in attracting investment.
“President Mahama turned around the economy of Ghana in a very short time. It wasn’t a very good case, but when he came in, he didn’t do any magic, but he did the right things,” Dangote said.
He added that the renewed confidence in Ghana’s economic management had helped restore investor trust, stressing that “money follows trust.”
Dangote further congratulated President Mahama, saying the Ghanaian experience showed how confidence in leadership and economic direction could influence the movement of capital.
The business magnate also used the occasion to call for stronger economic integration across Africa, particularly through freer movement of people, goods and services.
He questioned why Africans often face greater visa restrictions when travelling within the continent than visitors from outside Africa, arguing that such barriers can limit trade, investment and business opportunities.
Dangote urged African leaders to move beyond discussions about the continent’s economic potential and take concrete steps to promote intra-African investment and cooperation.
