NAiMOS hands over 100 seized galamsey pumps to NSA to boost agriculture

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAiMOS) has executed the transfer of one hundred (100) water pumping machines to the National Service Authority (NSA) in a strategic effort to redirect assets confiscated from illegal mining activities towards productive national resources.

The equipment, initially seized from illegal mining sites during enforcement operations, is intended to support Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda through improved irrigation and large-scale farming initiatives.

The handover ceremony was led by the Director of Operations at NAiMOS, Colonel Dominic Buah, and received by the Director-General of the NSA, Ms. Ruth Dela Seddoh, along with her deputies.

Ms. Seddoh described the intervention as timely and impactful, highlighting the critical role the machines will play in the Authority’s expanded agricultural programme, which aims to cultivate 20,000 acres of maize and 10,000 acres of tomatoes nationwide.

She noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader “Feed Ghana” agenda, which seeks to enhance food security, reduce dependence on imports, and create employment opportunities for young people, particularly national service personnel.

The water pumps, which were previously used in illegal mining operations that contributed to environmental degradation and pollution of water bodies, are now being redirected to support sustainable farming practices.

This marks a significant shift in the utilization of seized galamsey equipment, transforming tools of environmental harm into instruments of national development.

This latest handover forms part of NAiMOS’ ongoing strategy to ensure that confiscated equipment is not left idle but is instead deployed for productive and sustainable purposes.

In November last year, the Secretariat similarly donated over two hundred (200) water pumps to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support regulated farming activities.

The initiative has been widely commended as both environmentally responsible and economically strategic, particularly as government intensifies efforts to promote agriculture and ensure long-term food security.

NAiMOS has reaffirmed its commitment to exploring innovative and practical approaches to repurpose seized illegal mining equipment into valuable assets that contribute meaningfully to national development.
