One jailed as KMA arrests six for illegal refuse dumping in Kumasi

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has arrested and fined six individuals for indiscriminately dumping refuse.

The six individuals, consisting of three females and three males, were arrested by a KMA taskforce in the early hours of Monday, May 11, while dumping refuse at the Otumfuo Roundabout in the Central Business District (CBD).

According to Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye, Public Relations Officer for KMA, the suspects were arraigned before Court Two at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, where they pleaded guilty to the charges.

Each person was fined 100 penalty units, with each penalty unit valued at GH¢12. Five out of the six individuals were able to pay their fines, while one, Ebenezer Atakora, failed to do so and will serve a 10-day prison sentence.

The PRO urged the public to refrain from indiscriminate dumping and encouraged residents to report individuals who violate sanitation laws to ensure the environment remains clean.
