Police arrest alleged robbery Kingpin, gang members in Ashanti Region

A law enforcement operation in Kumawu has resulted in the apprehension of an alleged robbery kingpin and several members of a suspected criminal syndicate linked to multiple robberies in parts of the Ashanti and Western Regions.

The primary suspect, Kofi Adu, was arrested on April 25 at Onwe, a suburb of Ejisu, following days of intelligence-led tracking. Police report that the arrest was facilitated through a mobile money trail connected to one of the victims, Nana Konadu, from Dadease.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes and named five accomplices, identified as Owusu Patrick, Obeng Francis, Abdul Karim Nurudeen, Akwasi Agyei, and Edem. Police said the suspect assisted in luring the named accomplices, leading to their arrest at various hideouts.

The suspects were subsequently transported to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation. Items retrieved during the operation include a laptop, eight mobile phones, a vehicle number plate, identification documents, and substances suspected to be charms.

Investigators also linked the suspects to multiple robbery incidents, including an attack on Nana Serwaa at Yawnkruma, where an amount of GHsS,800 was reportedly stolen. The victim confirmed the incident and recounted the ordeal, stating that she suffered a miscarriage following the traumatic experience.

Another victim, Nana Konadu, also confirmed losing GHS55,000 to the same group in a robbery at Dadease in November 2025, adding that her family was subjected to severe abuse during the attack.

Police say all suspects currently in custody, along with the retrieved exhibits, have been handed over to the Effiduase Police Station for further action.

Meanwhile, one suspect, identified only as Edem, remains at large and is believed to be armed.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track and arrest him. Investigations into the case are continuing.
