Police officer clashes with ECG officials over GH¢13k electricity bill

A police officer stationed at the Madina Police Station has been accused of assaulting staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), along with a CID officer, after his residence in Pantang, in the Adentan Municipality, was disconnected from power due to an outstanding electricity bill of GH¢13,191.69.

According to ECG officials, the officer's premises have been disconnected more than six times in recent months due to unpaid bills, but he reconnects power shortly after the ECG task force leaves.

The situation has allegedly left ECG staff distressed and fearful of potential attacks while carrying out their duties.

Furthermore, the officer allegedly seized electricity cables belonging to the ECG during the incident.

In a video circulating online, the officer is heard confronting the ECG staff, asking, "Are you taking videos of me without my consent?". The incident reportedly occurred after the ECG personnel attempted to film the officer.
