Reindolph Afrifa-Oware Demands Transparency Over Hostel Fee Committee

Communications and Corporate Affairs Director of the National Tenants Union of Ghana, Reindolph Afrifa-Oware, has called for transparency and urgency following the government’s decision to form a committee to investigate rising hostel fees at tertiary institutions.

Reindolph Afrifa-Oware, Communications and Corporate Affairs Director of the National Tenants Union of Ghana, has reacted to the announcement by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on the formation of a committee to address the growing hostel accommodation crisis in tertiary institutions.

According to him, while the union acknowledges the government’s decision through the Minister of Education to investigate the issue, Ghanaians deserve more than announcements.

Mr. Afrifa-Oware questioned the composition and mandate of the committee, asking who the members are, what their terms of reference would be, whether students, parents, and the National Tenants Union would be represented, and what timelines had been set for action.

He further asked whether the findings of the committee would be made public to ensure transparency and accountability.

Mr. Afrifa-Oware stressed that the crisis should not be reduced to just another committee without urgency, transparency, and real accountability.

He added that students are not asking for sympathy but are demanding fairness, dignity, and equal access to education without exploitation.
