Roads Minister directs GHA to terminate Bogoso-Prestea road contract

Kwame Agbodza has instructed the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) to begin the process of terminating Black Oak's contract for the construction of the Bogoso-Prestea road in the Western Region, citing the contractor's poor performance.

This directive follows concerns raised during an inspection tour of Big Push and other priority projects in the Western Region regarding the contractor's slow progress.

An assessment of the site revealed that the contractor had completed less than two percent of the work, as noted by Mr. Agbodza.

He emphasized that although the Bogoso-Prestea road is not part of the government's flagship Big Push programme, it remains a priority project due to its importance to socio-economic development in the area.

“This is a very important road, so we need somebody who sees the urgency to address the concerns of the stakeholders here.

“So, I think that the Ghana Highway Authority must start the contract termination process and give it to somebody who is more capable of doing the work.”

Black Oak was awarded the contract in 2025 and, according to local authorities, mobilised to site in March this year to clear trees and other structures within the right-of-way, after which no further work was carried out.
