Seven more sanitation offenders convicted after Kumasi crackdown

Seven more individuals have been convicted of sanitation offenses by the Prempeh Assembly District Court Two, as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal dumping within the Kumasi Metropolis.

The latest convictions bring the total number of sanitation offenders prosecuted since Monday, May 11, 2026, to 25. Presided over by Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkoh, the court convicted the offenders after they pleaded guilty to charges of illegal dumping of waste contrary to Section 56(a) and (b) of the Public Health Act, 2012.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) reported that the offenders were apprehended by Metro Guards during sanitation enforcement operations at Kejetia Gate 3, Pampaso, Blue Light, Adehyeman Market, PZ, and other areas of Kejetia.

KMA Prosecutor Enock Nkansah stated that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to enforce sanitation regulations and curb indiscriminate waste disposal within the city. Each offender was fined 120 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢1,440, or faced a 10-day prison term in default of payment.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing sanitation bye-laws to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more orderly Kumasi.

The KMA also reminded residents that indiscriminate dumping of refuse remains a punishable offense under the law.
