Tema Police intercept suspected Indian hemp shipment on Tema–Ada road, one arrested

The Tema Regional Police Command has made an arrest following the interception of a large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp during an operation along the Tema-Ada road.

The suspect, Bismark Kpormeno, was apprehended on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.

According to the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, the suspect, who was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck, disregarded a police signal to stop and attempted to evade arrest. The vehicle was pursued and eventually intercepted at Bondase, where the arrest was made.

'He was subsequently pursued and apprehended at Bondase. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve sacks and eighty parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape.'

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected narcotic substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and suspected narcotic exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the region.
