Two brothers drown trying to save sibling in abandoned quarry lake

A devastating incident occurred in the Akatsi South Municipality, where two brothers, Felix Dogbey, 18, and Christian Dogbey, 25, tragically lost their lives in an abandoned quarry lake while attempting to rescue their nine-year-old sibling, officials reported.

The brothers, who had traveled from Asikuma to Live Donorkope for a funeral, were at the lake between Live Donorkope and the Catholic Secretariat on Friday afternoon.

According to Daniel Gidi, Akatsi South Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Felix successfully rescued the nine-year-old boy but unfortunately drowned in the process.

Christian then entered the water in an attempt to rescue Felix but also lost his life. Initial efforts by local divers to retrieve the bodies were unsuccessful. Officers from the Naval Training Command were later called in to assist with the search operation.

The bodies of the two brothers were recovered on Sunday morning by personnel from the Akatsi Police Command and have been deposited at the St Paul’s Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

The deaths have sent shockwaves through the family and residents of Akatsi Alagbokope, with many describing the incident as devastating.
