UEW final-year distance students protest deactivated portals ahead of exams

Some final-year distance education students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) say they are distressed and anxious after their student portals were deactivated ahead of their end-of-semester examinations.

The students, who are scheduled to complete their programmes, say the portal deactivation has prevented them from registering for their examinations, despite some of them having already paid their school fees.

According to the affected students, delays in processing fee payments led to the restriction of access to their portals, making it impossible for them to complete their registration before the examinations.

Some Level 400 distance education students, told Citi News that the situation has created uncertainty among students who have worked hard to reach the final stage of their academic journey.Historical news archives

They appealed to the university’s management to intervene and consider students who have evidence of payment but are unable to complete their registration due to the portal challenges.

“Because the portal has been deactivated, we couldn’t register, but our monies have been paid already. Please kindly help us. Level 400 to complete school is not a joke. Some of us are pregnant, and we are doing well to complete this thing. It is making us feel uncomfortable. We hope you can help us,” she said.

The students are calling on the university authorities to urgently address the matter and allow affected students who have fulfilled their financial obligations to participate in the examinations.

However, UEW management has maintained that only students who have duly registered and have their names on the official course lists will be permitted to write the examinations.
