University of Ghana guard arrested over viral assault video

The University of Ghana has arrested a security guard following the widespread dissemination of a video showing him physically assaulting a man on campus.

Ebenezer Annor Darko, a member of the university's Safety and Security Services Directorate, is currently in police custody and assisting with the investigation.

The Inspector General of Police's Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team apprehended him after footage emerged showing him beating, stomping, and slapping a man who had been detained on suspicion of theft.

The University of Ghana has issued a statement acknowledging the video and launching its own investigation into the incident, which will be conducted in accordance with the university's code of conduct for employees.

Police confirmed the arrest on Tuesday and stated that further updates would be provided as the investigation continues.

They also reiterated a warning against mob justice, urging the public not to take the law into their own hands when dealing with suspected offenders.
