Wanted robbery suspect dies after shootout with police at Cherimbo

A suspected armed robber and murder suspect, identified as Amadu Mammaa, has succumbed to injuries sustained during a police operation at Cherimbo in the Prang District.

According to the police, the individual was wanted in connection with a series of robbery attacks and a murder case.

On Monday, 13 April 2026, he was tracked down during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Bono East Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, with support from the national Police Intelligence Directorate.

The suspect was shot during an exchange of gunfire with officers and was subsequently taken to Holy Family Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A search of the suspect yielded a foreign-made pistol loaded with four rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, a cutlass, and three talismans. Investigators have linked the suspect to the murder of Hawa Yakubu on 9 March 2026 at Jerusalem near Mpaha in the Savannah Region.

He was also wanted in connection with a robbery attack on two individuals at Bompa near Ejura in the Ashanti Region on 23 February 2026.

The body has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital morgue, pending further investigation.
