Ghana’s High Commissioner signs UK-Ghana growth partnership roadmap for 2026-2028 in London

Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson, has signed a landmark UK-Ghana Growth Partnership Agreement on behalf of the Government of Ghana at the Ghana–UK Investment Summit in London on June 1, 2026.

This agreement outlines a coordinated roadmap for the period 2026 to 2028, with the goal of delivering tangible benefits for Ghanaians and businesses operating in the country.

It is centred on a portfolio of deals valued at up to £215 million, reflecting a shared commitment to private-sector growth, infrastructure development and skills training, particularly for young people seeking opportunities in the global economy.

A major component of the partnership is a UK-backed initiative worth £101 million to establish the Gulf of Guinea's first commercial-scale ship repair and dry-docking facility.

The proposed Takoradi Floating Dock Project is expected to create up to 430 direct jobs, with 30% of the positions reserved for women. The project is also intended to strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional maritime hub.

The agreement further includes climate-related financing designed to support environmental and economic resilience. Under the arrangement, £85 million will be mobilised for a reforestation fund, while an additional £9 million has been earmarked for forest restoration activities in the Oti Region.

The programme is expected to create jobs while supporting long-term environmental protection efforts.

In the technology sector, the partnership provides £6 million to support the implementation of Ghana’s artificial intelligence strategy and deepen science and technology collaboration between universities in Ghana and the United Kingdom.

The initiative is expected to strengthen research partnerships and expand training opportunities across tertiary institutions.

The health sector is also set to benefit from a £4 million partnership focused on specialist clinical engineering training. Additionally, new Transnational Education guidelines are expected to be introduced to improve access for Ghanaian students to international education and training opportunities.
