Mustapha Abdul-Hamid declares bid for NPP National Vice Chairman position

Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and a long-standing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has formally expressed his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman when nominations open.

In a statement addressed to party faithful, whom he referred to as “Fellow Kukrudites’, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid stated that his decision follows “persistent calls” from the grassroots urging him to step forward and contribute to the party’s rebuilding efforts.

“In the past few days, there have been persistent calls for me to run for office as a national executive member of our great party,” he stated, adding that “the rank and file have sent out a clarion call to me, to place my experience, institutional memory and strategic insight at the disposal of our collective revival.”

He noted that he has carefully considered the calls and has resolved to respond.

“Therefore, I hereby formally announce my decision to vie for the position of National Vice Chairman when nominations open,” he declared.

He emphasised that his ambition is not driven by personal interest but by a sense of duty to the party.

“This is not an ambition born of personal gain, but a desire to give back to the party what it has invested in me,” he said.

Recounting his long-standing involvement with the NPP, he highlighted his role as a founding member of the party’s University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch in 1992, under the mentorship of the late Lawyer J.K.B. Spio. He also recalled being present at the historic gathering in Cape Coast where the party transitioned from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP.

“I have been forged in the fire of battle. I have won some and lost some. I have the scars to show,” he stated, referencing his previous unsuccessful bids for National Organiser in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005.

Dr Abdul-Hamid further touted his experience within the party, including serving as the first elected National Youth Organiser, spokesperson for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for a decade, and Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 general elections.

Projecting confidence in his intellectual capacity, he described himself as “a scholar in the true sense of the word,” adding that he possesses “enough intellectual firepower to give covering fire to whoever will be elected as chairman.”

“Together, we shall re-strategize, rebuild and re-organize and return this party to its rightful place in leadership. The battle to recover our nation begins from within,” he said.
