NPP petitions diplomatic community over alleged political persecution and threats to democratic freedoms

The New Patriotic Party has submitted a formal petition to the diplomatic community in Ghana, expressing concerns regarding the escalating persecution of political opponents, the suppression of free speech, and the erosion of democratic freedoms in the country.

The party claims that the petition aims to draw international attention to what it perceives as increasing acts of intimidation, harassment, and politically motivated actions targeted at opposition members.

The NPP alleges that recent developments in Ghana raise concerns about freedom of expression, political tolerance, and the protection of civil liberties under the country’s democratic system.

Led by National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, party officials presented the petition, arguing that certain actions by state institutions against opposition figures and party members threaten democratic accountability and could undermine public confidence in Ghana’s governance structures.

The petition reportedly urges the diplomatic community to closely monitor the situation and support efforts aimed at safeguarding democratic principles, human rights, and the rule of law in Ghana.

The NPP maintains that protecting political freedoms and ensuring equal treatment under the law are essential for preserving Ghana’s democratic reputation.
