ORAL not failing, prosecutions putting pressure on NPP – Dr Ayine

Ghana's Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has refuted claims that the government's Operation Recover All Loot initiative is faltering, describing such allegations as baseless.

Dr. Ayine emphasized that the ongoing prosecution of corruption-related cases is instead generating anxiety within the New Patriotic Party, as some of its officials risk imprisonment.

In a statement to journalists after appearing before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, May 20, the Attorney General dismissed suggestions that the government was diverting attention from ORAL.

'When statements like that are being made that we are doing this because ORAL is failing, ORAL is not failing,' he stated.

Dr. Ayine highlighted the significant progress made in anti-corruption efforts during his tenure.

'I am the first Attorney General in the history of the Fourth Republic to have brought five corruption cases in one year. Go back and check the records,' he said.

He added that the current court cases were exerting pressure on the opposition. 'What is happening in court now is rather putting pressure on them because they know that I have been diligent in my investigations.

I have been diligent in the prosecutions, and they are afraid that their people will go to jail for the acts of corruption that they engaged in,' he noted. Dr. Ayine reaffirmed the government's commitment to the initiative, stating that ORAL remains active and on course.

'So, the accusation that we are shifting focus away from ORAL is not something that I will pay heed to because ORAL is on track and ORAL is going to succeed,' he stressed.
