CAF Backs Infantino for FIFA Presidency Re-election

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has officially declared its full support for Gianni Infantino’s re-election bid as President of FIFA for the 2027–2031 term.

The unanimous decision was reached during a high-level CAF meeting held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Vancouver, Canada, on the eve of the 76th FIFA Congress.

According to CAF, all Member Associations present agreed to endorse Infantino’s continued leadership of world football’s governing body, signalling strong continental backing ahead of the upcoming election cycle.

The move reinforces Infantino’s political strength within global football governance, with Africa once again playing a key role in shaping FIFA’s leadership direction.

CAF’s endorsement is expected to significantly boost his re-election campaign as preparations intensify toward the 2027 FIFA presidential vote.

The FIFA Congress, which brings together global football stakeholders, is set to officially set the tone for the next phase of football administration worldwide.

Infantino, who first assumed office in 2016, is seeking to extend his tenure through 2031, with his leadership focusing on global expansion, investment in development programs, and reforms across football federations.
