Police arrest suspects after Berekum Chelsea player killed in robbery

Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with a highway robbery that resulted in the death of a young footballer, according to police officials.

The alleged gang leader and another suspect were taken into custody following an intelligence-led operation.

One of the suspects was injured during an exchange of gunfire with police and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The arrests follow the killing of 20-year-old Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong, who died after being shot during an ambush on the team bus. The team was traveling back from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex when the incident occurred.

Armed men blocked the Bibiani-Goaso road near Ahyiresu, forcing the vehicle to stop. Players and officials fled into nearby bushes to escape as gunmen targeted the bus. Several people were injured in the chaos.

Frimpong sustained a head wound and was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police officials have stated that investigations are ongoing as they work to identify and apprehend other members of the group.
